The Meaning Behind 'Becoming the Keys'
In interviews, I am often asked the same questions, so I thought I would repeat them here and share how I came up with the seven keys that are featured in my key movies.
When I started to write and produce my first film, “The Keeper of the Keys”, I envisioned 12 keys. Then, I realized I was writing a film, not a miniseries! I had to focus on the meaning and importance of each key and come up with just seven keys that, when embraced, would help people to live a happier, more fulfilling life.
I did extensive research that began with Robert Collier’s “The Secret of the Ages.”
This book was the basis for Rhonda Byrne’s blockbuster hit, “The Secret.”
Another favorite resource of mine is Raymond Holliwell’s “Working with the Law”, Holliwell likens the principles of life to actual laws, as real and consistent as gravity. It’s a powerful book. I was also influenced by some of my favorite classic self-help standards that I grew up with, including “Think and Grow Rich” from Napoleon Hill and the more contemporary “Your Erroneous Zones” from Wayne Dyer. These books are some of the best self-help, inspirational books that have ever been published. They have such rich messages in them and, when the principles in them are applied, they can positively transform anyone’s life for the better.
When I shared the list of 12 keys with Scott Cervine, my cowriter for the screenplay, we brainstormed about what to keep and what to toss and what we could combine. Eventually, we were happy with these seven keys: Appreciation, Harmony, Passion, Courage, Faith, Vibration, and Empathy. Everything in life can reflect the wisdom of these keys. And, they are all positive versions of a principle. It’s not an accident that we don’t have “freedom from fear” but instead have “the Key of Courage.” See the difference? Harmony can pertain to relationships, including your relationship with yourself, your family, your friends, and colleagues. It can reflect your relationship with your physical self. And, you probably realize that when you are “out of harmony” with yourself, things aren’t going well in any area of your life.
The most misunderstood key is the Key of Vibration. I think the word “vibration is what throws people off. If I had a do-over, I’d call it the Key of Energy! Maybe that would help to simplify it. As human beings, we tend to vibrate at high or low frequencies, depending upon what we’re doing, what we’re thinking about, and so on. We can choose to vibrate at higher frequencies, generating better relationships, love, income, and career situations simply by changing our vibration.
I love sharing messages like these in the key movies!
The other question I’m often asked is, “How do you choose the experts for your films?” I have to laugh because they usually choose ME! I put it out into the Universe … online and through social media … that I’m looking for experts. Then, when an expert reaches out to me, we see if there is a match. I look for experts who have a profound message to share, and also those who will be able to help me take the film out into the world, so it helps if they are established. I hear from a lot of people who are just starting out with their expert career and it hurts me to turn them down, but I know what works. I have had to turn down a few people over the years for various reasons. But, it’s always surprising to see the experts blossom as the movies take off and get discovered.
“The Keeper of the Keys” is currently with Gaia.com and “The Secrets of the Keys” is with Beyond Words Publishing. My newest film will be released in January 2019 and it is already at contract with Gaia.com, too. We are reaching people all over the world with incredible messages of inspiration and empowerment.
